Self-Reflection:

This group work assignment is a huge challenge for me because I’ve never done any group work like this where we are required to come up with an item and explain it in detail. I’ve done group work before during high school and it’s like group work in class and presentation during class, but this time I’m required to do research online, come up with the material and data about this item, comparing this item with the similar ones that already exist, and at last come up with ideas that my other group mate agreed. In this project, the difficult part was to come up with the idea of either we do an invention or making a change to the current existing product. At first, we came up with something like the recycling system that recognizes the type of trash for you but our group member said that it was too complicated so they decided to do improvements on a fork and combined a straw and a fork so we can drink the broth and use the fork at the same time. During the early stage of discussion, we came across times where we disagree with the ideas that others have and I feel like throughout the whole group project getting our ideas together is the most difficult part, different people have different ideas and different ways to think and if we can’t think up of something that satisfies everyone then the quality of the project is already decided. I feel like projects like these are fun if you get with the right people because you can get to make different ideas possible or at least visual to people. I feel like I still need to do more group work to get familiar with the process because most of the work I do is individual and I’m still in the mindset of focusing on the ideas that I like I feel like I need to learn how to accept others’ ideas and combined it with my own idea. Like I need to think more from the other’s point of view. I’m still expecting doing group work as a whole and discuss things more, for this project, I feel like we just got the major requirements down and we just work on our own part it feels like individual work but tied together at the end. Overall, this group work is a great start in my opinion and let me learn things I need to produce higher quality work when working in groups.
